Day Twelve

November 23, 2006
We were up early and off to an all-girls high school. What an experience! I was amazed that students were sleeping, talking, and some studying! After the visit I spoke with Bryan, who is a teacher on exchange from America. He spoke about the differences in educational styles. One of the largest is that teachers teach the material and students can partake in learning or not. Many students were not paying attention and were talking while the teacher was presenting the material. There is a lw in Japan that teachers cannot send students out of the classroom. SO...that means that my job, in Japan...well...it would be MUCH different!

Students are arriving at the school by bike.
Most students walk or ride bikes. We didn't see any cars or parents dropping
off.

The classes have roughly 30-40 students.

Students must wear knee high socks and a uniform.

The schools are SO cold that students carry blankets with them to keep warm.
There are hooks on the desks to hang backpacks.

Sleepy!

PE class (in uniforms). Students change up in their classrooms. They do
not go to locker rooms and they will change right in front of anyone.
Much different from in the US!

Yes we do!
