Day Fourteen

November 25, 2006

My host mother has won awards for her calligraphy. She was teaching me how to write Kanji using ink and a brush. It looked really easy when she was doing it. It's really not that easy!

My host mother took me to a workshop museum where I could have hands-on experience with Japanese crafts. This is a photo of me weaving. It's pretty easy.

The ryoken was beautiful. Leigh Ann, Eve and I changed into our robes as soon as we arrived and a host served us tea in our rooms. They always bow when they serve you. It's hard to get used to. We ate like kings and queens. We cooked some food right at our table. There were great Japanese-style performances during our dinner. Before dinner, after dinner, before bed, and when we woke up we lounged in the onsen. An onsen is a natural hot spring. It was one of the most amazing nights I've ever experienced!
