Day Four

November 15, 2006

We had a traditional tempura lunch. We even sat on the floor. It was great fun!

Claire (teacher from Texas) and I at tempura lunch. We have become good friends, as you will see her in many photos.

Japanese students at the marketplace. When you ask to take their picture they agree, get in a group and give you the peace sign.

Woman praying and placing money in the lap of this statue so that her prayer may come true.

This was fun! You shake a container with sticks in it. When one comes out you find the matching number (it's hard because it's written in Japanese), open the box and take out your fortune. If it is a bad fortune you must get rid of it IMMEDIATELY! Luckily, mine was a "regular fortune" so I was able to keep it!

Me at the Shinto (shrine). I have waited a VERY long time for this very photo. I'm here at last!

Lanterns mark the entrance of Shrines. This is a typical lantern you would find marking a Shrine.

This is a photo of the beautiful ceiling inside the Shrine.

Buddha at the Shrine.
